Stephanie Mohan's Creative Portraiture
My love for photography began in childhood, watching my dad transform a small closet into a darkroom where images slowly appeared in trays of chemicals. That early experience sparked a lasting fascination with capturing moments and telling stories through images. I started with film and later embraced digital photography.
I earned a degree in photojournalism from San Francisco State University, an education that trained me to work confidently in a wide range of environments. I specialize in all types of photography, including family portraits, headshots and branding, senior portraits, pets, and small weddings. I enjoy working in both natural light and the studio, and I am flexible, deciding with the client which is best.
In 2000, I opened my portrait studio, Creative Portraiture, in the heart of downtown Fairfax, California. More than 25 years later, I’ve photographed hundreds of families, children, seniors, small weddings, local businesses, events, and school portraits, as well as volunteering to photograph dogs and cats in our local animal rescues.
I continue to embrace my journalistic background, covering protests for the nonprofit Probono Photo. My work has been featured in several exhibitions, which has been deeply meaningful to me.
In addition to my photography, I have served as Fairfax Artist in Residence for nearly ten years, using my skills to engage the community through projects such as Faces of Fairfax, the Fairfax Photo Club, and the Fairfax Art Walk.
Whether I am in the studio or on location, my focus is consistent: creating images that are honest, soulful, and alive. Photography is not just my profession; it’s my way of connecting with people, documenting milestones, and creating photographs that remain relevant long after the moment has passed. As my husband once said, “You seem to come alive, become more confident with a camera in your hand.”
