Janet Sanchez Photography

Hi, I’m Janet! I’m a Novato-based family and maternity photographer, combining my deep love for nature and the outdoors with a passion for documenting connection and the beauty of family relationships.

I’m an easy-going and overly optimistic kind of person, and over the years I’ve found that I have a knack for creating the kind of pressure-free, laid-back environment that allows families to truly be themselves. And this is where I love to create art. The best moments I capture may be guided by me and framed within my lens, but they’re truly born from the authentic bonds and dynamics that already exist within your relationships.

My goal is to provide your family with a genuinely enjoyable experience — the kind of planned hour that feels more like your family’s ideal hangout day and less like a structured photo session. Nobody needs to be molded into the perfect pose or a forced smile. What we’re going for is real. That might mean a slower start for your shy toddler, or lots of active running, spinning, and exploring for your outgoing kiddo. Dance parties, playing tag, or even cuddling up to read a book can all be part of your story. From choosing a location that brings your family to life to answering my photoshoot questionnaire, which helps me tailor the experience to your family and the current chapter you’re in, my goal is always to create something authentic that celebrates you.

I spend my own free time exploring Marin with my daughter and our dog. Parenting in nature is my happy place, and my experience since becoming a mother has deeply influenced my artistic vision. I love the freedom and playfulness that comes out of my daughter as we explore, and I hold our experiences outdoors so close to my heart. This is the lens I photograph families through. One that celebrates muddy feet, silly faces, tight embraces, and the quiet magic of simply being together.
